Taking photos of your boston terrier can be very enjoyable for both you and your pet.  It’s time that you can spend together and not only makes for a great bonding experience, but also an entertaining hobby and even a good gift idea.  Best of all, you can spend as much or as little time as you like taking pictures and it’s inexpensive.

If you want to embark on a photo project with your boston terrier the best device to use is a digital camera.

Traditional cameras that require film are more of a hassle and quite expensive in the long run because you have to pay for the film before you use it and to develop it.  Moreover you can’t see what the pictures that you have captured look like prior to developing them.  Thus, there is a good chance there are a lot of wasted shots.  With digital photography, on the other hand, you can see photos you take, choose to save or delete them and even print them in your own home.

If you are new to snapping pictures of your pet, you will need to first get your boston familiar with the process.  This means making sure he knows the commands sit and stay/wait.  Next, you will want to take a few trial shots, which should be done in a quiet room where there is little to distract him and you.  Have him sit and then quickly use the camera, making sure the flash is on.  Your pal will likely look a little confused by the sudden bright light but will recover quickly.  Be sure to praise him as soon as the photo is taken, regardless if the picture is what you want or not.

After a few trial sessions with your boston terrier, you can then prepare for your first official shoot.  Preparation is important because you will want to have everything you need with you.   Since you will have your hands full, you won’t want to run around for anything when you only have a few minutes of your pet’s patience to work with.  Therefore, make sure you have:

  • Your memory card or an extra
  • All of the different size lenses you may use
  • Your tripod
  • Any outfits or costumes you want to dress your dog in
  • Treats
  • Grooming supplies
  • Etc.

Lastly, be sure to set up the room you wish to use before taking pictures and don’t forget to make it fun for your boston terrier.  Praise and reward him for a job well done!
